PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to take a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
